Background

Under the Health Information System (HIS) action plan 2012 2015, which sets the objective of timely, quality and accessible health information to strengthen health policies and services for all I-Kiribati, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services of Kiribati has undertaken important steps in strengthening HIS, ICD-10 morbidity and mortality training and publication of regular annual health bulletins. In the CRVS Regional Action Framework, strengthening technical capacity of countries to record, process and analyse information on vital events is among the priority has been addressed. To meet this objective, the Government of Kiribati is requesting technical support of WHO on HIS including ICD-10 coding and medical terminology trainings

Purpose/Specific Objective of the Activity

Working closely with the health information managers in the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and with support from the WHO Country Office, the contractor will provide immediate technical support to conducting trainings for medical staff, interns and HIU staff on ICD-10 coding and medical certification of causes of death as well as medical terminologies in line with priority actions listed in the HIS Strategic Action Plan.
